Whether or not you have experience celebrating Father’s Day with your husband, it can be hard to know how to make it special. There are a billion different gifts you could get him, activities to do, and only one day to celebrate.
Of course all fathers deserve to be recognized and feel special, so how are you going to do that for your husband?

Special Father’s Day Ideas to Husband From Wife
Father’s Day card
Personally, I think one of the best gifts you can give your husband for Father’s Day is a Father’s Day card. It doesn’t matter so much what it looks like as what you put in the card.
To make the Father’s Day card extra special, take some time to write your gratitude for him and all he has done for you and your kids.
Men often need to know that they are appreciated, even if they don’t say it out loud. So let this card leave him with no doubts that he is loved and needed!
T-shirt
Why not get your husband and t-shirt that will remind him how awesome he is?
There are so many Father’s Day shirts to choose from, so you’ll need to decide if you want it to be funny, heroic, or standard. (Here are some fun options.)
My husband loves the shirt I got him for his first Father’s Day and he still enjoys wearing it.
Time out with friends
If your husband loves spending time with his guy friends, then schedule a time for them to get together. I recommend presenting this to him on Father’s Day and scheduling it for another day so it doesn’t interrupt family time.
This gift will show your husband that you respect the time he spends with others and know that it’s important to him. This will also give him a break from the stresses of daily life, and who doesn’t want that?
Family outing doing something he loves
If your husband is like mine, then you know that he often prefers to be with family than with friends. If this is the case, then surprise him with a gift certificate (like this one) for a fun family outing!
The family outing could be going to the movies, taking a hike, traveling to a lake or beach, or whatever you think he would enjoy!
Collect all the letters/paper gifts from the kids
If you have an abundance of cards and crafts from the kids to their dad, then collect them all and consolidate them into one binder or box.
My family enjoys watching my dad reopen his binder full of our drawings and letters to him from years past. This always makes Father’s Day special for the whole family as we have some good laughs and enjoy reminiscing.

Present your husband with his favorite snacks to take to work or enjoy at home. Make sure that the kids know these are off-limits for them. Here’s a few ideas of some great snack gifts for your husband:

One of the best ways to make Father’s Day special for your husband is by helping the kids make Father’s Day gifts. Gifts are a great way for kids to express appreciation to their dads.
I have fond memories of giving my dad gifts as a kid and being so happy when he thanked me for the gift. Here are a few simple ideas for Father’s Day gifts from the kids.
Hand-made cards
Help the kids write a letter or draw a picture for their dad. They can even decorate the front of the card if they want to get extra creative. You can also help them make envelopes to put the cards in or just present the card or drawing by itself.
Don’t let Dad do any work!
Remind the kids to treat Dad like a king on Father’s Day. Tell them to surprise him by taking his dish when he is done eating, filling his glass with more water, or by putting away his shoes when he comes home.
Scavenger gift hunt
Help the kids create a scavenger hunt for dad’s Father’s Day gift! (This could be a gift from you or the whole family.)
Put pieces of paper around the house that each have a clue leading him to the next paper. The last clue should lead him to where the present is.
This activity will make Father’s Day special for the kids as they have fun watching their dad search for the clues and find his gift.
Hand-made Father’s Day book
This book does not have to be professionally done. Making it yourselves is actually what makes it special!
Have the kids color, draw, and/or write on a piece of paper what they love about their dad or a memory they have with him. After everyone is done, staple the pages together or put them in a binder.
The book cover could be a piece of paper that says, “Happy Father’s Day” or “To the Best Dad Ever.” Invite the kids to take turns decorating or signing the cover.
This will be a fun gift to look back on over the years to reminisce and laugh about.
Father’s Day gift certificates
If the kids don’t have any ideas on what to give their dad, then invite them to fill out a Father’s Day gift certificate. This could be a promise to massage his back for 30 minutes, a promise to help with the yard work, or a planned father-son outing or daddy-daughter date.
Some of the best gifts I have received or given were gift certificates promising a gift of my time. So don’t think these are a throw-away gift! Remember what President Dieter F. Uchtdorf said:

Special Father’s Day Activity Ideas
Dress up younger kids in Dad’s clothes
When I was about 5 years old, my mom dressed me and my two younger sisters in my dad’s clothes (pictured below). We wore his button up shirts, ties, hats, shoes, etc.
The pictures are hilarious to look back on, and it was a fun way for us to show our dad we appreciated him and wanted to be like him.
Act out the “12 gifts of Father’s Day”
When I was a kid, my mom got me and all my siblings together to create an in-home show as a Father’s Day gift for my dad. We sang a parody of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” replacing each Christmas gift with things that made my dad happy. They were simple and sometimes silly things, such as “turn off all the lights” and my mom singing “five beautiful kids” instead of “five golden rings.”
This can be a fun experience for everyone as they help create and watch the song be performed. Your husband will probably be very entertained at what you and the kids come up with.
Father’s Day breakfast in bed
Have the kids help make a breakfast your husband will love and present it on a tray so he can eat in bed.
Don’t feel like you have to make it elaborate and complicated. For example, if want to make pancakes but are anxious about a mess, keep it simple by buying pancake mix and maple syrup ahead of time. Do something that sounds fun but not stressful.
Go to Church together
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Father’s Day would feel empty without attending Church. The children usually sing a cute song to the dads, and the speakers sometimes give Father’s Day-themed talks.
Attending Church with your husband and kids on Father’s Day can also be a great way to give thanks to our Father in Heaven. He is, after all, the Father of our spirits and gave us earthly fathers to take care of us.
Make his favorite dinner and dessert
Make Father’s Day special with a yummy dinner! Bring out the steak or barbecued ribs to help him know he is appreciated. Or keep it simple if that’s what he enjoys more.
The most important thing is that you have dinner together as a family. After all, he wouldn’t be a father without you or the kids!
Share things you appreciate about him
Helping your husband feel appreciated is the best way to make Father’s Day special. Sharing verbally what you each love about him will help him feel extra appreciated.
This could be done around the dinner table or another time when the family is gathered together. Have everyone (including you) take turns sharing why they love him.

No matter what you choose to do for your husband for Father’s Day, make sure it is something that he will enjoy. And don’t over-stress about it, either. Remember that this is supposed to be a special family day, not an elaborate and expensive party.
Fathers play a very important role in our lives, and their presence and efforts should be openly celebrated and appreciated.
